THE REMI HARRIS HOT CLUB TRIO

FRIDAY 27TH NOVEMBER 7PM

One of the UK’s most exciting guitarists, Remi Harris, returns to Linton Village Hall for a night of musical virtuosity, passion, and flair. Following a sold-out performance at an iconic London venue last year, the Remi Harris Hot Club Trio is back for another unforgettable evening on 27th November as part of this year’s UK tour. This dynamic trio, led by the extraordinary Harris, embarks on a thrilling journey through Gypsy Jazz, Blues, and beyond, with a carefully curated mix of original compositions, jazz standards, and exciting new arrangements of classic tunes.

We expect Harris to be joined as usual by double bassist Tom Moore and rhythm guitarist Chris Nesbitt, both exceptional musicians in their own right. The trio’s deep musical chemistry and effortless interplay create a mesmerizing show inspired by legendary figures such as Django Reinhardt, Peter Green, Wes Montgomery, Jimi Hendrix, and Joe Pass. Their performances blend technical brilliance with heartfelt expression, offering an evening that is as emotionally engaging as it is musically impressive.

Harris has dedicated himself to mastering the instrument, taking his playing from humble beginnings busking on the streets of his local towns to performing at some of the world’s most prestigious venues and festivals. His career highlights include appearances at Buckingham Palace, the Montreal Jazz Festival, BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall with Jamie Cullum, and live performances on national radio and television. His ability to seamlessly shift between musical genres, from the virtuosic melodies of Gypsy Jazz to the raw energy of the Blues, is a testament to his versatility and dedication.

Tickets are selling fast, and again, we expect this to be a sell-out event, so book early to avoid disappointment. Doors and Cash Bar open 6.30pm for the performance at 7pm.

NEWS FROM ST MARY’S CHURCH

REMEMBERING

Our annual Remembering Service offers a quiet time of reflection to remember and grieve for those we have loved and lost over the years. It can be a recent bereavement or one from many years ago: perhaps you feel you never had a chance to say goodbye? It will be held at 5:30pm on Sunday, 1st November. If you have a loved one whose death you would like remembered by prayers and the lighting of a candle, please let one of the Church Wardens know or sign up on the sheet at the back of the church. If you are able to attend, you are invited to light a candle and place it around the font in a period of silence after the names have been read. All those known to us from the parish who have died or been laid to rest in the churchyard in the last six years will be remembered automatically. We will gather for refreshments before the service and end in a time of quiet and reflection. Rev. David will be available after the service if anyone wants to talk to him.

REMEMBRANCE

The annual Remembrance Service will be on Sunday, 8th November. Those who wish to attend should assemble in the churchyard from about 10:45am, in good time for the silence at 11am. We are grateful to all who take part in the music, readings, and laying of crosses. The service later continues inside the church.

QUIZ AND PUDDING EVENING

A highlight of the church events calendar is the Annual Quiz and Pudding Evening. This will take place on Saturday, 14th November, in Linton Village Hall. Tickets available from Ernst Zillekens at £8 a head; . Come on your own and join to make a team or reserve a table for your team!

BIBLE BOOK CLUB

Due to Remembrance falling on the second Sunday, Bible Brunch will move to Sunday, 15th November at Wren's Nest. During the session, we will be discussing the book we have read during the last month, with help from Tim Mackie of the Bible Podcast, and choosing a book for December.

LINTON (SOUTH) PARISH COUNCIL REPORT

(representing the villages of Bromsash, Gorsley & Linton in Herefordshire)

There are three vacancies on the parish council for co-option, and a vacancy for a Public Footpath Officer for the Linton area. If you are interested in any of these positions, please contact the Clerk, Rich Hunt, e-mail pcclerk@lintonpc-herefordshire.gov.uk, or telephone 07763793695.

Plots are available at the parish council-managed allotments in Gorsley. To find out more if interested, please contact the Clerk.

The parish council is challenging Herefordshire Council’s decision to delay the introduction of a 30mph speed limit on the B4221 in Gorsley until the road has been resurfaced, which is not scheduled before April 2027 at the earliest.

The parish council has replaced damaged and broken stiles on footpaths in the parish with easy-access gates.

PARISH COUNCIL ANNUAL REPORT 2026-27

The reduction of traffic speed within the parish remains a priority for the council. Statistics gathered from the SIDs in both Gorsley and Bromsash show that the devices continue to have a positive impact on speed reduction, albeit with some alarming exceptions where very high speeds have been recorded. Thanks are due to Councillor Burtenshaw for the numerous maintenance activities he has carried in keeping the SIDs operational.

A revised solution to the flooding issue on the B4224 near Bromsash House has been implemented by the Roads Lengthsman, and this has proven to be largely successful.

The Parish Council notes with concern that the Neighbourhood Development Plan for Linton and Gorsley will carry only limited weight in planning decisions from July 2026, as the Plan will then be over five years old. Unfortunately, work on the generation of an updated plan cannot realistically begin until a new Herefordshire Council Local Plan is in place. Work on this new Local Plan is yet to commence.

The council continues to maintain the allotments. Councillor Williams has taken the lead on this and has instigated several changes to improve both the interactions with allotment holders and the general condition of the site.

A highly successful ‘Greener Living Show’ was organised and run by the Parish Council’s Climate Change group. With leading experts and suppliers from Herefordshire and north Gloucestershire, the event showcased the very best advice and products across all aspects of Home Energy.

Finally, a Community Litter Pick was held in April with around thirty enthusiastic litter pickers taking part across the three centres in Gorsley, Linton and Bromsash. A large quantity of litter was collected, as well as much tea and cake were consumed. Thanks are due to the litter pickers and to all the volunteers who supported the event as helpers.
